Just Kids – AnOther Magazine F/W 2002/2003 ‘Adolescents’ by Terry Richardson Styled by Venetia Scott

Is youth wasted on the young?
I love this representation of youth from this early millennium issue of AnOther Magazine. These models are a bit cool – cooler than I remember my teenage years, but I imagine a nostalgia for such a group as these laid-back, well dressed kids.

Style Scrapbook: Psychedelic Daze

Uncategorized

It’s summer, and I’m eager to take a weird trip with out of the box prints, holographic metallics, decadent jewels, and accessories that are a bit surreal… Psychedelic inspiration is easy to find in trippy colors, off-beat works of art, and especially in vintage imagery — the summer of love can provide endless ideas, perfect for summer festivals, or every day demonstrations of peace and love. See below for some great inspiration and clothing and accessories that you can shop now to get the perfect psychedelic look.

Trend-spotting F / W 13.14 ; Type and Rebellion

Uncategorized

The influence of Punk has been found in all areas of fashion, majorly due to the fact that the Metropolitan Museum of Art has chosen it as the theme for the yearly costume institute. There were a mix of different interpretations on the Fall runways — one being graphic / punk-esque slogan t-shirts. Whether with abstract letters spelling out in-your-face text – as Jeremy Scott’s ‘Rescue Me’ jumper — or a design that’s more subversive and sequined — Ashish presented a top reading ‘i’m having a shit day thanks’ — typed out tops are sure to be a major trend for the coming fall. It’s a great way to channel that punk attitude without feeling like you are donning a fancy dress costume, and these pieces can surely be conversation starters. Or, in the case of the aforementioned Ashish shirt, perhaps a conversation avoider —

Here are some more examples of rebelliously  inclined graphic t-shirts from the international runways ;

One Million Hearts: Fashion Unites for Haiti

Uncategorized

The CFDA and fashion Designer Donna Karan teamed up for a project for Karan’s charity Urban Zen called upon american designers to fashion their own paper mache hearts donated by DKNY to be sold as a part of
their auction on eBay ‘One Million Hearts’ for Haiti
— the resulting hearts were not only for a great cause, but happened to be pretty fabulous.

The hearts were all crafted by Hatian artisans, whom supporting is a big part of what the foundation does. The personalized hearts will be auctioned on eBay, the auction ending on May 2nd. I highly recommend checking out the creations and if you are feeling charitable bidding
on one from your favorite designer.

You can also see the exhibition / explosion of hearts decorating Urban Zen’s beautiful West Village store.

Some of my favorite designers were included in this project, and I was so glad to see their hearts helping Haiti. Here are a few of my favorites, even though they we’re all fantastic ! You can check out all of the clever designs here on ebay’s fashion for Haiti store.

Psycho Killer: Stolen Girlfriends Club’s Provoking Prints

Stolen Girlfriends Club: Dead End collection
AW 2013 NZFW

Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 10.11.10 PM

Stolen Girlfriend’s Club’s ‘Psycho Salmon’ print is an elusive pattern, one that seems
playful at first but at a closer glance reveals itself to possess a bit of darkness.

From far away it may be difficult to guess what is depicted on the New Zealand based brand’s
Fall 2013 Frocks, but zooming in will reveal not abstract elements, but ‘fish cross bred with robots and humans.’

That may sound a bit intimidating, a print designed to ‘represent a post apocalyptic world that is unkind’ — a fish-robot-human hybrid, an artistic statement on where society is headed…but still,
it is a quite cute design. Splashed in amongst this collection which includes both
Menswear and Women’s wear, the textile read as a fun mis-match rather than an ominous statement.

I suppose that’s the trick, crafting a print that looks fun and wearable but is meticulously detailed — intriguing and interesting.

The Fall offerings from Stolen are available now to shop online — t-shirt styles and light dresses that floaty and easy — femininity pairs up with the raw edge and attitude of the collection, these are pieces that cool girls undoubtedly want to [and should!] wear. Plus, the Psycho Salmon make for a great conversation starter.
